Diversity in Science - Wie lassen sich Inklusion und Empowerment in Japan fördern?

Diversität ist eine treibende Kraft für Innovation. Welche Fragen wir in der Wissenschaft stellen und wie wir sie angehen, wird stark von unserem persönlichen und sozialen Hintergrund beeinflusst. Darum ist es in der Wissenschaft wichtig, Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Hintergründen – wie Geschlecht, Nationalität oder Alter – einzubeziehen, um das Spektrum der Fragen zu erweitern und neue Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen.

Japan steht vor großen Herausforderungen, wenn es um die Vielfalt geht: Im Gender Gap Report belegt Japan den letzten Platz unter den G7-Staaten, eine wissenschaftliche Karriere ist für viele junge Forschende unattraktiv geworden, und während der Pandemie sank die Zahl der internationalen Studierenden aufgrund der geschlossenen Grenzen auf ein Minimum.

Aber die jüngsten Entwicklungen sind vielversprechend: Die Regierung hat die japanischen Grenzen wieder geöffnet und plant neue finanzielle Unterstützung für Doktoranden. Was können japanische Universitäten tun, um Inklusion und Empowerment zu fördern und ein diverseres Umfeld in der Wissenschaft zu erzeugen?
